Why does so many excuses get in the way of having dinner with others? It is so easy to not set a date to eat with other people because hopefully something would come up that would make that day not available. Your life could seem so busy that thinking of cooking and eating with others would take precious time away from you when you feel like you really need that time to get some rest. You might even get uncomfortable about eating with people that you are not, well comfortable with. Or you might feel like money is an issue so going out to eat or having company is not in the budget. All these reasons come up when someone asks to eat dinner with you and I know this because these are ALL the thoughts that have ran through my mind.
I am here to tell you that sharing food with others should be something that is a priority and something that you should not put much thought into because then you will back out of it (trust me). We are not called to live complex, unattached lives. Busyness should not control us. Money should not control us. Our comfort should not control us. Our lives are about building community and forming relationships. What better way than to share a meal together.
Below I have collected pictures of my dinners shared with other people. These people invited Dan and I to eat at their house and every time we get asked this, my heart explodes. It may seem like not a big deal for some people but to me, I appreciate it so much. Also, I will put notes below the pictures that could help you with future dinners that you have. My friends kept it simple and did whatever was easy which is perfect! Cooking dinners does not need to be stressful. Relax and be filled with joy.
